As a physician, this maps onto something I see consistently in clinic. Patients who frame their health entirely around avoidance, not wanting to end up diabetic, not wanting to repeat their parents’ story, often struggle more than patients who have a clear positive vision of what metabolic health looks like for them. The brain seems to organize behavior around what it is moving toward, not what it is running from. Reframing the conversation from disease prevention to building metabolic resilience changes how patients engage with the same information entirely. I appreciate your thoughts here.
