Welcome to Episode II of The Curiosity Chronicle - a weekly short-form newsletter designed to spark your intellectual curiosity. Each week, I will share five pieces of content - one quote, one tweet, one article, one podcast, and one bonus item - all curated for curiosity.
So without further ado, here’s The Curiosity Chronicle: Episode II…
One Quote:
“All I want to know is where I'm going to die so I'll never go there.” - Charlie Munger
This is one of my favorite quotes. It’s all about inversion - a powerful mental model that says that hard problems are best solved when processed backward. You can go far in life by simply avoiding stupidity (rather than seeking brilliance)!
One Tweet:
This tweet from entrepreneur Chris Bakke was fascinating. The Irish Pub Company - a company that sells “kits” to create your own Irish pub - is a scale, thriving enterprise. Go figure! Entrepreneurship truly knows no bounds…
One Article
What Is an Entertainment Company in 2021 and Why Does the Answer Matter?
Whenever my friend Matthew Ball releases a new essay, I would suggest dropping everything to read it. His new piece - What Is an Entertainment Company in 2021 and Why Does the Answer Matter? - was no exception.
He is one of the best thinkers on media, gaming, and entertainment, and his work is guaranteed to send you down a rabbit hole. I always walk away from his essays with a spark of curiosity about something new - this is the highest praise!
One Podcast:
This short-form episode of the My First Million podcast - from Shaan Puri and Sam Parr - was excellent. With the backdrop of the crypto market destruction of this week, they dive into frameworks for dealing with a crisis. It’s quick and a must-listen!
You can find the episode on Spotify or Apple Podcasts.
One Bonus:
This tweet made me laugh harder than I care to admit. If you don’t know the story of how a tire company came to be the leading authority on fine dining, I highly suggest checking out this article or this video.
There are interesting learnings on business strategy, customer acquisition, and ecosystem lock-in here!
That does it for Episode II of The Curiosity Chronicle. If you enjoyed this, I’d love for you to share it with your friends!
