I think this process is generalizable to any type of goal even the daily process goals. To adapt it to the smaller goals, the only thing one needs to change is the granularity of metrics/timelines for that goal. A great analogy for how one can apply it—for the coding nerds in this thread—is recursion. That is once you've setup your BHAG, mid-term goals, and daily process goals. You can still optimize further by applying the same process to the mid-term goals and daily goals. Obviously, there is a point at which the level of granularity leads to diminishing returns and that's where the track and adjust stage comes in to help in finding the sweet spot.

All in all amazing post! Am sure a lot of people are going to benefit from it.

I like the focus of "1 BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal): Your big, bold goal. [...] It's the metaphorical poster on your wall." How to reach this goal though? A short answer is: if you want to reach the top, you have to do hard work:

Would love to see your 2022 goals, Sahil! Personal/Professional/Health could be broken down a lot of different ways under this model, so I'm curious.

Good idea for me to sketch those out!

Sahil, I can see that a majority of this framework can also be applied to goal setting and tracking for organizational goals as well. Do you know of any existing framework that is dedicated to organizational goal setting?

I’m super appreciative for your goal-mindset share. I’d like to share a very complementary approach by Brian Buffini.

The Weekly check-in with his wife and each of the 6 kids is beautiful. One thing he’s appreciates about them, one thing he’s proud of, and finally the phrase “Just checking in.” Deeply touched me as an effective habit for strengthening family ties.

Keep up your amazing work!

Thank you Sahil to take time and share good path to achieve goals in 2022. However, in the journey of days and months there is an ingredient that seems important to me to remain constant, this is the awareness of the present that allows us to make decisions to meet the plan outlined.

Putting that age discrimination straightforwardly front and center I see in seeking someone YOUNG and ambitious to run your job board for good compensation. Thats a big hairy violation of Federal law…..

Good callout-more my own bias in my mind that only a younger individual would want to work with me on it, but I'm open to anyone that has passion. Thanks for flagging that. Will be more thoughtful in future.
